De La Mata a La Mesa

Where: Departure from Playa Del Carmen to the community of Nuevo Darango. Travel time 1.5 hours.

The day will begin by travelling from Playa del Carmen to the community of Nuevo Durango.

We are met and greeted by Enrique and his family and they share with us information about the project.

Then, the “work day” starts.

We go with Enrique to his milpa to collect everything that will be used to prepare the delicious meal that we will all be making together.

All of us will prepare the chicken, the salsas, even the orange juice drink.

Once we are done we leave the food to cook for around one hour and a half, and so, we use the time to visit the local fauna UMA and a cenote or a cavern.

And, depending on the day that we visit, we could also get to see the kids at their school or organize an impromptu soccer game with them.

When it is time to eat we go back to Enrique´s home, make tortillas and we better were good chefs because we get to eat what our hands made.

Lastly, if we chose the experience of cavern + cenote, we will live a welcome Mayan ritual and purification ceremony to be able to enter the cave and do a short meditation in the dark.
